Mighty Warriors coach Sithethelelwe ‘Kwinji’ Sibanda has selected 18 Mighty Warriors to represent Zimbabwe at the 2020 COSAFA Women’s games in Port Elizabeth, South Africa from 3 to 14 November.
Only six of the 19 players who took part in the 2019 edition were retained in the 2020 team. These are, goalkeeper Lindiwe Magwede (28); defenders Nobukhosi Ncube (27) and Sheila Makoto (30), as well as midfielders Emmaculate Msipa (28), Mavis Chirandu (25) and Danai Bhobho (27).
Seven of the 18 players were drawn from the Under-20 squad which was set to play Ethiopia in World Cup qualifiers earlier this year.
Rutendo Makore (28) returns to the team having been absent in 2019 while on a maternity break. She is the most experienced forward alongside Shyline Dambamuromo (20) and Dinah Rose Banda (19).
Zimbabwe are in Group C alongside Botswana and guest nation Tanzania. The team with the highest number of points at the conclusion of group matches progresses to the semi-finals.
